Rotor Dynamic Analysis

Many types of rotating equipment are vulnerable to rotor critical speed failures. Our expertise in rotating equipment allows us to analyse and prevent these types of failures in the early design stages. Rotor Critical Speed analysis is many times a root cause of failures in new and retrofit machinery. Our experience in this area can provide early insight to potential problems and is invaluable for troubleshooting problem machinery.

A typical analysis in accordance with API 610 for a large multistage pump starts with an accurate model of the geometry.

The next step is to run an undamped, dry critical speed analysis and create the map to determine if it should be treated as a stiff or flexible rotor.

Based upon the results from the critical speed map, the undamped critical speed modes can then be reviewed.

.

At this point, the damped whirl speed map is then analyzed for any running interference’s.

The associated whirl shapes are also identified.

The final displacements at various stations for the worse case conditions can then be reviewed for final acceptance.
